Camping at O'Neil Creek, Chippewa Falls

This weekend we visited the wonderful (and closeby) O'neil Creek Campground, four miles north of Chippewa Falls. It was by far the best place we've been to thus far. As you'll see, there were a wide variety of activities for the kids...and it's affordable too! We brought the camper to the site Thursday night so that we wouldn't have to rush on Friday. I have been pretty dead with work so I was able to spend a good part of Friday packing, shopping and then unpacking. I headed to the campsite later Friday afternoon and got set up what I could. I had to ask the neighbor guy for help with the awning because I just can't seem to figure that thing out. This was after I heard him tell the others in his camp "That poor girl" after watching me struggle!! Anyway, it was a good ice-breaker for us and he ended up joining us for drinks later that night! Dan and the kids showed up around 6:00 and Antie and Uncle Kevin showed up shortly after. We took the kids down to the beach for a short swim, and Caleb gathered snails. (disgusting things) We then went back to camp to hang out until our guests had to leave. :( They had to work in the morning. We were blessed with great neighbors this time around and had drinks with them around the fire after the kids went to bed. Right next to us were a couple, Josh and Marie who had two boys close in age to Caleb and Cailey. They also, coincidentally, had a black lab and Shih-tzu!! Crazy. Anyway, so we had fun chatting with them throughout the weekend. Saturday was jam-packed. I came to the conclusion that I need to pace myself on Friday night and not allow the excitement of setting up camp get the best of me. It makes for a loooonnnnggg Saturday!! :) Anyway...Dan was a saint and let me rest a little in the morning and then we went to the pavilion for walking tacos and a corn feed...DELISH!!! We hung out at the beach for awhile after that and then took a train ride through the campground. After that we ran to Birch Point for some scrumptious all-you-can-eat crab legs. After supper we played some mini-golf back at our camp and hit the sack early. We were exhausted. Sunday we took the dogs swimming and then packed up and took the long five minute journey home! I was quite sad driving out of that campground, we had a really good time there. We'll definitely be going again! This weekend we've got the Zappetillo family picnic in Cumberland and will be camping out at the Shaw cabin in Timberland. Should be another fun weekend! In two weeks we're heading to Jellystone in Wi. Dells for a week-long vacation! Can't wait!!
